Textbook prices 'out of control,' student group says

Kristin Graham is a sophomore, and already she's fed up with the steep cost of college textbooks.
"I think it's ridiculous," Graham said. "I spent ... almost $400 on books this semester."
Graham and dozens of other University of Northern Colorado students on Wednesday sat at tables on the sunny University Center patio to write to a legislator about the book bill that empties their wallets each semester.
Graham and a couple other UNC students writing letters said they spend $500 to $800 a year on textbooks. One problem, Graham said, is that some professors tell students to buy an expensive book but then don't use the book during the semester.
"It would be nice if they told us that up front," said Graham, a psychology and sociology major.
